International Friendship Day celebrated every year on 30 July. The purpose of celebrating this day is to celebrate friendship as well as promote the idea of ​​meeting new people and making friends with them. An international civil organization ‘World Friendship Crusade’ first proposed this day in the year 1958. This proposal of the organization is to promote a culture of peace by fostering friendship. Later the United Nations General Assembly formally adopted International Friendship Day in the year 2011.

International Friendship Day is an initiative taken by UNESCO to spread the culture of peace. The day came into existence as a solution to spread the message of happiness and unity through friendship in all the countries of the world.

History of International Friendship Day:

This day was first celebrated in 1958 in Paraguay. Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, started this day in the year 1930. Hall proposed the idea of ​​International Friendship Day to celebrate as a special day for his friends. In 1988, the United Nations made Winnie the Pooh the Ambassador of Friendship. At the 65th United Nations session held in 2011, 30 July officially declared as the International Day of Friendship.

Friendship Day in India

Friendship Day celebrated in India on the first Sunday of August. According to this, in the year 2022, Friendship Day will celebrated in India on 7 August 2022. In many other countries including Bangladesh, Friendship Day celebrated on the first Sunday of August.
